Yao Ming Mania: Yao is golden in win over Warriors

  • jeff · 1 year ago
I am gald that a slow learner such as Idleman finally wakes up and start Scola instead of non-scoring Hayes. I learn that our GM is a statistical man. I wonder if he is tracking down how slow a learner Idleman is.

what a coincidence whenever tmac's out rafer steps it up!

it seems playing scola alongside yao is the solution for fronting and double teaming yao. scola needs to get more touches.

That is exactly what the rockets should play the warriors! When Yao is double teamed. Let 4 Rocket players that can score (except Hayes!) to play against 3 warriors! If 4 Rockets can't beat the other 3 players, then Rockets should know that their players just not good enough!

People always say that Yao has difficulty to play against warriors! In my opinion, Yao posts even bigger match-up problem for the warriors! Warriors is a run & gun shooting team! When they are hot and shoot a high percentage game, they normaly win! Rockets don't have to run with them all the time! As long as Rockets can take care of the ball, play good defense, rebound well enough and move the ball around and take high percentage shots. And I think Rockets can beat the Warriors just like this game!

Adelmen should play the rookies more, give them more minutes and they need playing experiences and it will pay off big time when Rockets advance to the playoff in April!

I say let's bring in Jeff Van Gundy as our assistant coach.

    We really miss his defense.

man. if yao can play so aggressive every game .. it would be nice.. he should get 30 points plus at least 15 boards.... i think he is still too nice...maybe thats just chinese culture ....

    Big Win!
When I opened my TV, it was already the second quarter. When I saw the score, I am shocked. I thought Rockets would have a hard time, but it was defeated so easily. Then I saw the score again, thank god, it was the Rockets that had a higher score.
It was hard to stop Yao, he dominated the game! His teamates played well too. It's a wonderful game!

It was very enjoyable to watch this game. I will be there live to watch them take on the Pacers. Hope Yao brought some warm clothes and Chinese medicine, because it is freaking cold up here in Indy!

What an effort for YAO. Awesome game. Clyde may be right when he said this game could be a turning point for the team.

I don't fault Adelman for his coaching decisions. Most of the things that we harp on him doing have been in hindsight. First, as to Scola starting, its not like Scola has been that good this season. He has had moments, but they have all been offensive moments. During the previous Jazz game, his defense was atrocious. Simply awful. Even offensive coaches wince when someone simply moves out of the way of an offensive player. Scola's only defense so far has been to flop. However, he is getting better, but it didn't make sense to start him from game 1.

As for the rookies, we started this year as a contending team, and didn't fall out of serious contention until about two weeks ago. Very few contenders play rookies, let alone low profile ones like Brooks and Landry. While they are both solid players, Brooks is really better at the 2 (instead of the point) off the bench, and Landry is much better off the bench where his energy can get under the skin of the opponent's second unit. It is not an uncanny decision not to give rookies significant playing time.

And while Alston has been inconsistent with his jumper, the rest of his game has been fine. You can't compare him to other league point guards, the comparison has to come against the other rockets point guards because reality is, those are our players and the other options that we have. You field the best option you can, and he is our best option. I think it is our weakest position, but that is another discussion. Of our pg's, he is by far the best passer (now our leading assist man), has the best chemistry with Yao and Mac, and runs the offense much much better. Brooks is electric, but he has done much better as a running mate with Alston than as the point man, and same goes for Luther. Another thing to remember is that while he shoots poorly, he is still shooting a better % on the season than either James or Francis. What sucks is that we would be much better as a team if we had a better player at the point. But, like Fran said in his blog, we're screwed because no team is going to trade a player better than Alston for Alston or any of the other garbage pg's we have (which happens to be our best trade asset).

That all said, got to love Yao's dominance. He should dominate like this when playing a smaller team. Has always made me wonder why he doesn't more often. Also got to love the lack of turnovers on his part down the stretch.

    FINALLY!!!
I AM NOT SAYING I AM ALWAYS RIGHT, BUT I WROTE IN HOUSTON CHRONICLE ON MONDAY MORNING THAT THE BEST THING THAT HAPPENED FOR YAO NOT PLAYING AGAINST THE JAZZ FOR ILLNESS AND THE ROCKETS LOST THAT GAME IS THAT LUIS SCOLA WOULD START IN THE LINE UP INSTEAD OF HAYES!!!AND THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED IN LAST NIGHT GAME AGAINST THE WARRIORS!!!

I AM NOT SURE WHERE THE ROCKETS WILL GO THIS SEASON, BUT I AM PRETTY SURE IF COACH ADELMAN START SCOLA AND AARON BROOKS IN THE STARTING LINE UP NEXT SEASON...THE ROCKETS WILL WIN THE NBA CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

YAO + SCOLA + AB= ROCKETS NBA CHAMPIONS!!!

I KNOW IT'S STILL EARLY, BUT DOES ANYONE THINK YAO SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE MVP RACE FOR THIS SEASON?
  • arthurko from LA · 1 year ago
    WOW.
YAO came up huge. And all the more delightful when Yao plays Huge + wins + against a good team + without Tmac
  • Luckyme · 1 year ago
I agree with Yao's saying that it was a team effort, that the other 4 teammates contributed tremendously besides he himself. Of course he meant not only the 4 but most of the other team mates as well. It will be interesting to see if he could maintain that type of intensity and stamina. I would say that it must have been quite draining on him to have played such an high-power game.
  • notthree · 1 year ago
Defenitely, YAO SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE MVP RACE FOR THIS SEASON, I mean, without those bad calls on him.

Look at the last 2 minutes of this game, Yao completely dominated Golden State's front court.
  • jeff · 1 year ago
I do not think that it is fair or reasonable for Yao or any player from the Rockets to be considered as MVP, just because no MVP candidate should come from a losing team. I do not believe that Idleman can get out of the deep hole he has dug earlier in the season. He is indecisive. Look how long does he take to put faith in Scola who won MVP awards in Spain and in the recent Olympic qualifying tournament. May be, Idleman thinks that people are all slow learners like himself. Since the team is in the wrong hands, what can the players and the fans do?
  • D · 1 year ago
Last time I checked, the Rockets are 25-20, not a losing team.
